Pillows, Pillows, Pillows

I love to love the pillow I use to sleep at night or during naps. It’s not always an easy thing – to find the “perfect” pillow. The last time I bought new pillows for myself I had to buy several to take home and test run. I would lie down on my bed, pull the new pillow out and lay flat or on my side to see if I loved how it felt. It took a few attempts, but I settled on one that I thought would work for awhile. It didn’t. I think I used that pillow for 8 months at the most. It just wasn’t right for me. Never really was I guess. I went back to my trusty latex pillow, because it got cold at night (LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a cold pillow when I fall asleep) and it worked okay to double it up with another flat pillow.
But that couldn’t last forever. My neck would ache. I would wake up with a nasty headache. My back was sore. It was time again to do the pillow search…much to Jon’s annoyance. He wonders how a person can go through so many pillows in such a short time. He still loves the pillows we bought him 2 or 3 years ago.
Anyway, I have been wanting a buckwheat pillow for awhile now. I actually considered it last year, when I was on my pillow hunt. But I couldn’t fathom paying $50 for a pillow with empty hulls in it. My mother has a buckwheat pillow. She loves it. And in Japan, in hotels and hostels we used buckwheat pillows. T hey were a little too firm for me, but still pretty decent. So 2 weeks ago, I began my online pursuit of a buckwheat pillow.
I checked out the bucky pillow and the bucky duo (which has buckwheat hulls on one side and millet hulls on the other). I checked out the Makura Miracle Pillow. But I couldn’t decide between them. I have heard of the bucky, and I read the reviews of the original makura, but I wasn’t 100% sure about them.
Then I found The Pillow Company, and there were so many choices and sizes. I read the differences between millet hulls and buckwheat hulls. I appreciated the company’s return policy. And this may seem silly, but I liked the design and flow of the website. When ordering from a new online retailer, I have to like the site, or I refuse to order from them. I’m a geek, what can I say?
Anyway, I settled on the Millet Hull Standard Size Night Pillow. Since I’m a relative newbie to using hull pillows, I thought going with a smoother hull would be easier and better for me. I have not been disappointed in my choice!
I have had my new pillow for a week now. I love it! I am only using 1 pillow to sleep with, and I have no morning headaches or neck pains. We’ll see how it fairs after 6 months, but so far, I am one HAPPY SLEEPER! So, if you’re in the market for a new pillow, check out The Pillow Company. Their customer service is outstanding, and their products are great quality.

Happy After May Day

I thought I would just post a little something here, since it has been some time since I’ve done anything. It’s been a month since I returned from Mozambique and I still don’t have those pictures done. I PROMISE to have several posted soon. I volunteered to sort through the team pictures, and it’s been challenging going through 1500 images. I will not post that many, for those of you with dial-up still that would be painful. But I will pick 2 or 3 out from each event or day to show you all.
Other big news for me, I cut off my hair. Yep. 10-12 inches gone. Actually I cut in stages. The week I returned I had my stylist take off at least 6 inches. But for a week, every time I did my hair, it looked like a bad 90’s perm grow out minus the bangs. Ugh! I couldn’t live with it. So I went back and had her layer more and take off more. So now it’s above my shoulders and very layered. It’s been 3 years since I’ve had to style my hair this much, and it takes getting used to. But I am enjoying it. of course, there are days that I miss my long locks…
